This week...

This week has been quite eventful...not busy in terms of lots of places to go, but just busy.

  • I have made 3 etsy sales this week...a huge victory, since my shop has been open since August, and I sold my first item in Dec. So I've now made 4 sales (one is actually going to be conducted in person-so my shop shows 3 sales). Sales typically mean sewing...either sewing a custom order (which I did this week), or replenishing my stock since I sold some. So busy week this week, but I enjoyed it. More sales means more money in our adoption fund!
  • I meant to include this in my randoms post, but I have altered my laundry detergent recipe. I realize this isn't front-page news, but in the event a reader is using it, I wanted to let you know. I've been using Ivory soap, which I like just fine, and it works. However, I tried Kirk's castile soap, and I really like it. I like the scent better (although it's still subtle) and I feel like it might clean better, especially the cloth diapers. It is also all natural and vegan, added bonus. I'm not vegan, but I like the idea of washing my clothes with natural products from plants. The main ingredient in this soap is coconut oil. It is about 3 times the cost of Ivory, but when I pay $1.27 for 3 bars of Ivory at Wal-Mart, paying $3.48 for 3 bars of Kirk's (also at Wal-Mart) doesn't see outrageous, especially since I like it better. The measurements haven't changed; I still use one bar of soap.  I am also selling this detergent in my etsy shop, and it's still $5.00 for 20 loads (the same price as the other laundry detergent I was making-with Ivory soap).
  • I made (and sold!) a different kind of burp cloth this week. It's not new or uncommon, just different than the ones I was already selling. I now make the kind that is an embellished cloth diaper. I actually sold the first set that I made within less than 24 hours of posting it (thanks, Bethany!). I have listed another set (identical) and hope to put some more options up there soon.
  • I'm also working on my crocheting skills. I really don't have any...I used to dabble a little, but it's been so long, that I am having to relearn. I am working on crocheting flowers so that I can make flower hair bows and headbands to sell...hopefully coming soon!
  • I have added flower hair bows to my etsy shop this week. They are silk flowers with a gemstone in the middle. There is a picture of Zoe wearing one at the bottom of this post. They are 2 for $5.
  • Abby and I made peanut butter cookies yesterday.
  • We saw a little snow yesterday. I was glad we didn't have to get out, as it was really cold. We skipped storytime today because I didn't want to get the girls out.  Really don't like cold weather, especially when the wind is so cold.
  • One of the blogs I read is an adoption blog, and it's author is the mom of an adopting family. She advocates for orphans who are in desperate circumstances, and she has a post she wants to be shared. Please take the time to click on this link and read it. Thank you in advance :)
    •  Last week was our first week of Kindermusic. We did it for a semester about a year ago, but Zoe was a little young to care and Abby preferred storytime, which was free, whereas Kindermusic tends to be expensive. However, at a sample class during storytime a few weeks ago, Zoe really enjoyed it, so we decided to do it. Both girls had lots of fun.
